The GAP Trail Store is the official merchandise shop of the Regional Trail Corporation (RTC), the all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has been building and maintaining rail-trails in southwestern Pennsylvania since 1991. If you have shopped at gaptrailmerchandise.org or gaptrailstore.org, this is the same store, in its new home.
RTC is not the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy. That is a separate national organization. RTC is the local group whose volunteers keep more than 85 miles of trail open and free, including much of the Great Allegheny Passage. When you buy a jersey or a TrailGuide here, you are paying for the gravel, fuel, and chainsaw work on those miles.
Orders are packed and shipped by volunteers from West Newton, Pennsylvania. Donations are handled separately from the store, and are tax-deductible.
What your order pays for
- Crushed limestone and equipment fuel for resurfacing washed-out sections.
- Chainsaw, mowing, and brush-clearing supplies after every storm.
- Benches, kiosks, signage, and trailhead upkeep along the corridor.
- The licenses and insurance that keep the corridor public.

Who runs the GAP Trail Store?
The Regional Trail Corporation runs it. RTC is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1991 and based in West Newton, Pennsylvania, and it maintains more than 85 miles of rail-trail, including much of the Great Allegheny Passage. The store is its official merchandise shop, previously at gaptrailmerchandise.org and gaptrailstore.org.
Is the Regional Trail Corporation the same as the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy?
No. They are two separate organizations and they are often confused. The Rails-to-Trails Conservancy is a national advocacy group based in Washington, D.C. The Regional Trail Corporation is a local southwestern Pennsylvania nonprofit that physically builds and maintains the trails here, including much of the Pennsylvania side of the Great Allegheny Passage. Buying from this store supports the local trail crews, not the national organization.
Where can I buy the GAP TrailGuide?
The GAP TrailGuide, the mile-by-mile printed guide to the Great Allegheny Passage, is sold here in the Books & Maps section. It is the current edition, and buying it directly from the Regional Trail Corporation means the proceeds stay with the organization that maintains the trail.
What happened to gaptrailmerchandise.org and gaptrailstore.org?
Nothing was lost. Both are the Regional Trail Corporation's own store addresses, and this page on trailkeepers.net is the store's new home. The older addresses still reach RTC's store, so existing links, bookmarks, and printed QR codes keep working.
Where does the money from a purchase go?
To the Regional Trail Corporation, the volunteer-run nonprofit that maintains the trails, where merchandise revenue helps cover the fuel, materials, and supplies behind resurfacing, mowing, clearing downed trees, and the benches, kiosks, and signage along more than 85 miles of trail.
Is shopping here secure, and who ships my order?
Checkout and shipping are handled by Shopify, the same system the Regional Trail Corporation has used for years. Payment is processed securely on Shopify, and RTC volunteers pack and ship every order from West Newton, Pennsylvania.
